TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
This agreement outlines the terms and expectations of dog grooming services conducted at Doggie Stylez Grooming Parlour. Dogs will only be accepted for grooming after the Owner (or responsible person) has completed and signed this form. By signing the form, you are deemed to have accepted the following Terms and Conditions.
GENERAL GROOMING RISKS:
Extra care will be taken when performing any grooming procedures, however, owners must understand possible complaints can occur during and after the groom, including but not limited to: stress, skin irritations, abrasions, nicks, lacerations, ear infection, etc. Grooming can also expose a hidden medical problem or aggravate a current one. The owner agrees not to hold Doggie Stylez Grooming Parlour and its staff responsible for any injuries, ailments or conditions which could result from this grooming process. Procedures within the grooming environment can be stressful for some dogs, especially for senior, young, overweight dogs or those with medical concerns. In the best interest of your pet this agreement will give Doggie Stylez permission to seek emergency veterinary treatment if we deem it necessary for whatever reason. We will do our best to contact you first, before taking your pet for treatment, however this may not always be feasible. Unless we are deemed to be negligent all medical expenses are the responsibility of the owner.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATION & HEALTH RISKS
All dogs entering Doggie Stylez Grooming Parlour must be current and up to date with all required annual vaccinations against Canine Distemper, Infectious Canine Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, and Canine Parvovirus. Those entering the salon without vaccinations will be doing so at the risk of the owner and Doggie Stylez will not be held liable for any resulting ill-health Doggie Stylez Grooming Parlour takes no responsibility for any dog that may contract any of the aforementioned diseases.
If any dog is presented at our salon showing signs of ill-health or symptoms of infectious disease, Doggie Stylez reserves the right to refuse entry into the salon and the groom will be cancelled for that day.
FLEAS & TICKS
Doggie Stylez Grooming Parlour is a tick/flea free environment. If your dog is known to have a parasitic infestation, we ask that your grooming appointment is rescheduled to a time when your pet is free from said infestation. 48 hours’ notice must be provided to avoid a cancelation charge. If the dog has already been admitted to the parlour and fleas are found on your dog, there will be an additional charge of £15 payable to cover time taken and the products used. This will cover additional bathing in insecticidal shampoo, together with fumigation of our premises and disinfection of the equipment. Pets with a flea infestation carry a risk of anaemia, infections, tapeworms, and other health problems, we recommend that you contact your veterinary surgeon to provide you with the best recommended treatment.
If ticks are found an additional £5 will be charged to include removal. We will not be held responsible for any infection caused by the tick or removal thereof; this will be at the owner’s own risk and we recommend a thorough review by your veterinarian post groom.
COAT CONDITION/DE-MATTING
Doggie Stylez Grooming Parlour practices humanity over vanity. If we are presented with a neglected coat and believe, in our professional opinion, it is kinder to remove the coat than it is to de-mat this will be done in accordance with The Animal Welfare Act 2006. Staff will endeavour to help your pet feel as relaxed as possible during their groom by providing the most humane methods of grooming, fully reinforced through positive interaction. Under the Animal Welfare Act 2006, it is an offence to cause unnecessary suffering to an animal: – this includes prolonged ‘de-matting’ which is painful and detrimental to the welfare of the dog. If you bring in your dog with more than 15 minutes of de-matting work, we are required by the Act to clip your dog short humanely or refer you to your vet to do the same. Whilst we will make every effort to identify this as part of the pre-groom consultation and coat assessment there may be occasions where the degree of matting cannot be fully identified until we commence the groom.
In this event we will make every effort to contact you, however if this is not possible, we will do what we believe is in the best interest of the dog. It is the owner’s duty of care towards their pet to maintain the coat between professional grooms. If the owners fail to attend to their pets’ coat and matting becomes an issue, then Doggie Stylez staff will endeavour to spot shave areas that are particularly sensitive e.g. behind the ears, under armpits, in the groin area and under the tail or completely shave off any matted coat to prevent unnecessary suffering to that animal. This can be prevented by daily brushing with a slicker brush and comb. We will be happy to explain the correct way to brush your dog and suggest a grooming programme that will allow us to achieve the look you would like for your dog; this may involve more frequent visits to our salon and will certainly involve daily grooming at home. When a dog’s coat becomes matted, it causes discomfort as the matts pull tightly on the skin and underlying health conditions may not be visible. When a matted coat is clipped short, it may occasionally reveal sore, reddened, and irritated skin, this is due to the fact that the skin has not been able to breathe, and air circulation is not restored. Clipping a matted coat can take longer and cause additional wear and tear on our equipment so a further fee may be chargeable in addition to the normal groom price.
The process of de-matting increases the risk of injury including but not limited to cuts and grazes, skin irritations caused by the shortness of the clipper blades that will be used as well as possible haematomas. In addition, you may see some behavioural changes such as head shaking, excessive scratching, licking, and “scooting”.
You agree that Doggie Stylez staff will not be held liable for any affect that this has during or after the grooming session is complete.
PLEASE NOTE: Our normal grooming rates do NOT include de-matting; any de-matting will be charged for as an EXTRA £10 for a maximum of 15min
Doggie Stylez staff do not de-mat: infirm/elderly or aggressive dogs (It is advised these are de-matted under veterinary care).
BEHAVIOURAL ISSUES:
Aggression
Owners have the obligation to inform Doggie Stylez staff of any aggressive tendencies your dog may have or if he/she has previously bitten during the grooming process. If in the event we encounter a dog with aggressive behaviour, we will endeavour to reassure your dog and overcome their anxiety however, in extreme situations, we reserve the right to muzzle your dog, with an appropriate muzzle for his size and breed. We reserve the right to refuse/terminate the grooming of aggressive dogs for the safety of our groomers and the dog. If the groom is terminated, you will be charged in full for the price of the groom. Your attention is drawn to the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991, which holds owners liable for bites and injuries caused by their dogs.
Nervous/Anxious Dogs
Although Doggie Stylez caters to dogs with nervous traits, owners have the obligation to inform us of any such behaviours for us to cater to their needs to the best of our ability.
Behavioural charges will be decided by Doggie Stylez staff depending on the severity of the behaviour and the time, skill, and equipment required to groom the dog. If your dog should bite you agree to be responsible for all related medical bills, loss of earnings and equipment damage. We reserve the right to refuse service if we believe your dog may become a danger to itself or those within the parlour. In the event any of these behaviours present during the groom the session may stopped at any time and the full fee incurred.
